Setup Email Client: Outlook Express 5

POP3 (Post Office Protocol) Mail is the most common mail access protocol that allows your email client (Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Messenger, etc.) to download your email messages to your computer so that you can read them later without being connected to the Internet. This feature is especially important if your connection time is chargeable.

Step-by-Step Guide

To setup a POP3 email access from Microsoft Outlook Express (Windows), here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Run Microsoft Outlook Express 5

   
   

2. Click Tools, select Accounts...

   
   

3. Click Add, select Mail...

   
   

4. Enter your display name (friendly name):

   

   Click Next

   
   

5. Enter your email address:

   

   Click Next >

   
   

6. Select POP3 as your mail server type and key in the incoming and outgoing mail server settings (eg. pop.geromail.com and smtp.geromail.com).

   

   Click Next >

   
   

7. Enter your login name (full email address) and password:

   

   Click Next >

   
   

8. Click Finish

   
   

9. Highlight the newly created email account and click Properties:

   
   

10. Click on the Servers tab, enable the setting 'My server requires authentication'.

    

    IMPORTANT: This step is required if you want to send out email.
    

11. Click OK

    
    

12. Click Close
